Half a World Away

Greetings from Japan

A Rare Peaceful View at Daikoko-ji Temple

Well, after a few weeks of unsuccessful attempts to log into WordPress, I was finally able to log in this evening. Ironically, my trip is nearing its end. Winter is fast approaching in Kyoto and the unusually cold weather has forced many of the once vibrant leaves to fall to the ground. The autumn foliage was not nearly as good this year as it has been in previous years.

That said, I have been able to capture some stunning colors which you can view here: http://www.carlyackermanphotography.com/Japan/New-Kyoto-November-2012/26678549_LPD56G

(I will continue to post more photos upon my return to San Francisco. I have yet to add titles to the current photos).

Kyoto was insanely crowded and this will be my last Autumn here, as the crowds can be quite wearing.

Mayhem!

Indeed, there are loyal leaf watchers who will awaken at 4:00 a.m. to be alone at any given temple by sunrise. I tried this tactic two years ago at Honen-in Temple in Kyoto. Unfortunately, about 100 other people had the same idea, so I was unable to  enjoy the serenity of the temple, but it took me three hours to capture the entrance to the temple which is stunning in autumn.

The three hour photo!

After so many visits, I can safely say that my favorite time of year in Kyoto is the second half of May. It is so quiet here that it is not unusual to have an entire temple or garden to yourself. This is when one can truly experience the peacefulness of such places.

As my trip comes to an end, I will bring home new memories of Kyoto which I share with you through my photos.
