Twelve years ago I returned to visit Japan, my first visit being many years ago.  I had already traveled to China, Mongolia, India, Europe and had also lived in the UK  and South Africa.  However, my return visit to Japan had a profound impact on me in a way that no other place has. 

 Japan evokes emotions that are hard to describe in words. Whether it is the moving and ephemeral beauty of the seasons, or the serenity that a garden or a temple inspires, I use my camera to capture those emotions. That said, I did not really think much about photography until I returned to Japan. I was so compelled to capture my experience that I found myself taking more photographs in one trip than I had taken in a lifetime. When I returned home and re-visited my photos, they not only moved me, but much to my surprise, moved others as well. Hence, my passion for photography was born. I have since traveled to Japan on a regular basis for the past twelve  years with my camera in tow. 

The photographic aspect has been a continuous learning process, a process that I thrive on. Most of my photos were initially taken using a Sony Cybershot. I now use a Nikon D7000. My primary lens is a Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS, although I also own a Tokina 12-24mm F4. I personally prefer shooting in the aperture priority mode for now. My style is also beginning to evolve. Most of my photos are primarily landscapes; however, I have an urge to create edgier photos. I have begun this process in San Francisco and hope to continue it when I return to Japan in November. Finally, I am in the process of switching from Photoshop to Lightroom. I am also beginning to work with HDR.
